What Is Myopia

The correct definition of myopia is that it is a refractive condition of the eye in which parallel rays of light entering the eye come to focus in front of the retina when the accommodative system (focusing mechanism of the eye) is relaxed.

Symptoms of Myopia

  1. The primary symptom of myopia is poor distance vision.
  2. Headaches may result from the child trying to ‘squint’ to achieve adequate distance vision.
  3. Frequent blinking or rubbing of the eye may be one of the symptoms os myopia in young children.
  4. Head tilt or abnormal head posture when watching television is always abnormal and should be investigated.
  5. In myopia cases of more than -3.0D or -300degrees, the parent may find that the child chooses to read books place close to the eyes.
