I must say that I am truly impressed with the work and effort that the SOP committee put into this event. The message is clearly written on every SOP committee members forehead, that is to "Upgrade & Raise the Standards" for opticians. The educational program was well attended by opticians, the opticians are hungry for knowledge. I must say that the opticians are really preparing themselves for the future! Remind me of one famous quotation from Abraham Lincoln "I will study & prepare myself, & someday my chance will come". I believe SOP chance is NOW.

My heartiest congratulations on a very successful meeting!

It was a great debut on 29 October 2008.

The turn out was impressive to say the least. Participants had an interesting day of learning and entertainment. Topics covered were far reaching. They were kept short and speakers went straight to the point. That made the entire learning process a lot easier. The seamless flow from conference to the gala dinner also has to be commended. Everything happening under one roof. That's a whole lot of convenience. After tasting your first success, I am sure there will be a greater turn out next year - both in participants and supporters.

We are certainly looking forward to be involved with SOP and to support a good cause again.

Best regards,
Teo, Polycore

The First Singapore Opticianry Convention held solely for Singapore Opticianry Practitioners on Wednesday 29th October 2008, at Suntec Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Centre. It was attended by Opticians from Optical industry in Singapore, headed by Mr Steve Lim, President of SOP and invited Guests.

Our Guest of Honor, Dr Lim Wee Kiak, MP of Sembawang GRC & Advisor to SOP and Distinguished Guest Dr Khoo Chong Yew, Chairman, OOB were our Special Guests for this Convention.

The Convention focused on Futuristic Vision with invited speakers who touched on interesting topics such as Common Eye Condition, Psychology of Presbyope, Referral Systems, Dual Side Progressive Addition Lenses, UV Contact Lenses, Evolution of Optical Lens Edger etc.

During the program, Dr Khoo has brought up the good points why OOB needs to legislate of Optometrist & Opticians. With the upgrading seminars and courses, it proved to be very beneficial and profound. We were able to share further insights and knowledge into our profession.

Currently in Singapore, Myopia is declared national healthcare hazard where a stunning proportion of children are shortsighted. Parents are deeply concerned how to prevent, halt or even reduce their child?s shortsightedness. Since surgery is out of the question, parents rely on physical wear of spectacles to improve their child?s vision. What follows usually is a steady progression of myopia throughout the child?s early life until adulthood. This proves how important our competence Opticians to advice, educate and recommend to our patient.

I would like to say a big "THANK YOU" to all you team members who has contributed to this unprecedented and collectors' item of a First Convention and Exhibition 2008!

I really appreciate your time and contributions, well done!

Benny Chong, Better Vision

Congratulations to you and your committee members for a great job done in organizing a very successful inaugural SOP meeting. I believe all the participants have benefited through the learning from the wide range of topics presented by the various speakers.

Despite the tight schedule with a one day event, the committee was able to keep to the timeline and finish the program as planned. I would also applaud the scientific committee for ensuring that the topics presented retain the professionalism require in a scientific meeting such as this. We look forward to working closely with SOP to advance the vision care industry in Singapore.

This is the inaugural convention for Opticianry in Singapore, an event organized by opticians, for opticians. Broadly speaking, the SOP conference is extremely well-organized, with its contents carefully crafted to the benefits for its members and all opticians in Singapore. It can be clearly seen that SOP's organizing committee has put in tremenduous effort to make this convention a successful one; and undoubtedly, SOP has achieved its objectives to its maximum. This convention has definitely set a benchmark for SOP's organizing committee next year, whilst every optician in Singapore are definitely looking forward to another round such opticianry lectures in 2009. It is also certain that the optical industry needs the professional work contributed by opticians and such opticianry conference is indeed a bold step forward to the future. Congratulations, SOP and your fellow members!
